Frequently asked questions

What is this calculator?
You enter the standards you’d want in a partner — age range, height, income, build, relationship status and more — and it estimates what share of adults meet all of them, using public population data. It was built by Out Of Pocket TV, a street-interview channel that asks people exactly these questions.
Is it based on real data?
Yes. The figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDC, Gallup and Pew Research for the United States, and from national statistics offices, the UN, the World Health Organization and the World Bank for other countries. It is still an estimate — how the odds are calculated lists every source and the main ways the numbers can be off.
Why is my number so low?
Because standards multiply. If four standards each keep half of people, together they keep one in sixteen — about 6%. A fairly ordinary list gets small fast: a man aged 25 to 35, at least 6 feet tall, earning $100,000 or more and not married works out to about 1.65% of men in that age range, roughly 1 in 60.
What does “Lost in the Matrix” mean?
Every result gets one of five rankings, based on the share of people who match:
| Ranking | Share who match |
|---|---|
| Local Neighborhood | 60% or more |
| Next Town Over | 30% to 60% |
| Across the Country | 10% to 30% |
| On the Moon | 2.5% to 10% |
| Lost in the Matrix | 2.5% or less |
When you search worldwide, “Across the Country” becomes “Across the Globe”. Most people who set several standards land in Lost in the Matrix — which says more about how multiplication works than about anyone’s standards.
Why do I have to pay to see my full result?
Out Of Pocket TV is one person, not a company, and the one-time payment is what keeps the calculator and its data running. It’s US$0.99 in the United States, and visitors in other countries see a price in their own currency. There’s no subscription and no account to create.
